The "Genuine" 30 Years Ago Was Actually a Masterpiece

I sink deeply into the R32 GT-R's seat and grasp the steering wheel. The atmosphere of this cockpit is undeniably defined by that genuine steering wheel.

The original R32 steering wheel from that era was crafted with exceptional care.

The seamless leather wrapping around the entire wheel speaks to the dedication of the craftsmen and the car manufacturer at the time.

However, no matter how magnificent a masterpiece, it cannot withstand over 30 years of time. The leather inevitably deteriorates, becoming glossy and frayed, intruding on our view.

The Hellish Task of "Re-upholstering"

When a steering wheel is damaged, the first thing many owners consider is "having a professional re-upholster the leather." However, there's a significant pitfall here.

That wonderful "seamless genuine leather" is incredibly, mind-numbingly difficult to cleanly strip from the core material when you try to re-upholster it. If it's not cleanly stripped, the new leather won't lay smoothly, and if you use too much force, you can damage the urethane base itself. Attempting to restore a deteriorating genuine wheel is becoming an "unrealistic option" due to the immense cost, time, and effort required from the installer.

Different Stitching. But Absolutely No Compromise on the Atmosphere.

That's why we at GENUINE TREND REPRODUCTION (GTR) chose the path of "creating a new steering wheel from scratch."

Let us be frank here. Our steering wheels are not "one-piece (seamless)" like the genuine ones. Due to differences in manufacturing methods, the stitching pattern is also completely different from the genuine article. Replicating the level of craftsmanship, which was incredible for a mass-produced car of that era, proved very difficult with modern production capabilities.

However, that doesn't mean we created a "mediocre substitute." Even if the stitching pattern is different and it's not one-piece, we absolutely will not compromise on "that taut atmosphere felt when mounted in an R32 cockpit." We poured all our efforts into that single point.

• Grip and Texture: We used high-quality leather with a grain similar to the original, giving it an exquisite semi-gloss sheen that feels new but not out of place.

• Offset Equivalent to Genuine: Without compromising the driving position in any way. While fulfilling its functional role, our top priority was for it to blend seamlessly into the environment.

You are freed from the painful struggle of stripping old steering wheel leather, and can enjoy the feel of new leather in your usual driving position.
